When Paleo Isn’t Enough: Finding the HIDDEN Cause

Eat, sleep and move according to our ancestral expectations. It is sound advice and the cornerstones upon which good health is built. Thousands of people have overcome debilitating disease, lost a ton of weight, defeated autoimmune diseases and more just by following these simple, paleo tenants.

What About the People That Don’t Get Better?

What happens when avoiding dietary toxins, getting a good night’s sleep and ditching the chronic cardio aren’t enough? Do we blame Paleo?  Do we blame the person following the program?  Maybe they needed more sleep but their blood sugar was an issue.  Maybe their adrenals were exhausted and they couldn’t regulate their cortisol level.  Maybe they were eating what was assumed to be the right foods but had a food sensitivity.  Maybe this, maybe that, maybe, maybe, maybe.  When it comes to someone’s health– when it comes to your health, do you really want to guess?

GAPS. Autoimmune protocol. Whole30. Gluten free. FODMAP free. Nightshade free.……the list of dietary protocols available is endless. So we bounce around from protocol to protocol in this never-ending battle of trial-and-error, blindly throwing darts at our dart board of health concerns.

The body has an innate desire and the ability to be in homeostasis, so Homeostasis = health!

Cortisol

A disruption in balance has a domino effect and spills over to other functions in the body, eventually leading to the symptoms many people are experiencing on a day to day basis. This state of imbalance causes the body to operate in a state of dis-ease; in fact, it is this state of imbalance that causes almost all diseases! This is why, in FDN, we address the hidden stressors that disrupt homeostasis, instead of chasing symptoms. We seek to restore function and aid the body in healing itself, and returning to a state of ease.

Data-Driven Results

Once we have the correct data on the body’s systems, we can point our compass in the right direction – not by treating symptoms, but by rebuilding health through natural protocols. These protocols are done without drugs or surgery using “lifestyle medicine” akin to paleo philosophies. In the FDN world, we call it D.R.E.S.S. – Diet, Rest, Exercise, Supplementation and Stress Management – appealing to our body’s genetic/ancestral expectations in each area.
