Nutrient density is considered an important factor in whether a diet promotes health. Over time, the nutrient density of the Standard American Diet has declined while rates of chronic disease have increased dramatically. Nutritional analyses show that the nutrient density of the traditional hunter-gatherer diet exceeds that of the Standard American diet. However, the modern Paleo diet still does not meet all the recommended daily allowances for a variety of vitamins and minerals. These nutrient deficiencies will be discussed, as will ways to avoid them.
