About JJ Virgin: Who She Is
In case you’ve been living under a rock or are new to the name “JJ Virgin,” JJ is a celebrity nutrition experts, public speaker and media personality you want to know.
With more than 25 years in the health and fitness industry, specializing in holistic nutrition and functional medicine, JJ has earned recognition as the go-to weight loss expert who can unlock the door to life-long weight management and peace with food through her no-nonsense, no-fail approach to nutrition and fitness.
Prior to her role on stages across the nation today, JJ owned a high-end gym and served as a celebrity nutrition and fitness expert, and by 2010, wrote her New York Time’s bestselling book Six Weeks to Sleeveless and Sexy.
Since then, she’s continued build a successful career, including co-starring on TLC’s Freaky Eaters and becoming a go-to health expert on Dr. Phil, PBS, Dr. Oz, Rachel Ray, and the TODAY Show. She also hosts the JJ Virgin Lifestyle Show podcast.
Despite her claims to fame though, one of the greatest accomplishments JJ Virgin is most known for today is her ability to overcome adversity—specifically the trauma she face when her son, Grant, was in a hit-and-run accident and was airlifted to a hospital in September 2012.
The Story That Transformed JJ Virgin
Grant suffered major physical trauma, including a torn aorta, multiple brain bleeds, a broken wrist and elbow, and both of his femurs were fractured.
Looking back, JJ said, “Typically, 90% of people who suffer this type of injury to the aorta die before they get to the hospital.”
The doctor said there was nothing else they could do but let him go. However, JJ refused to let go and dug deep to fight not only for her son, but her family.
During this time, JJ took all the knowledge and experience she’d gained in the health, nutrition and functional medicine fields and channeled it into helping both her son and her family battle the trial.
While Grant was in a coma at UCLA Trauma Center, JJ began implementing what later became known as her book The Virgin Diet, followed by The Virgin Diet Cookbook, JJ Virgin’s Sugar Impact Diet, and JJ Virgin’s Sugar Impact Diet Cookbook.
The most crucial objective was to be her best self so she could support her family. Concurrently, as she continued to advocate and guide the care and nutrition her son received as well, Grant began to heal.
Looking back, JJ said, “To see your baby so broken is something a mother should never have to see. My greatest fear has always been that I would outlive my children, I would have traded my life in a second to turn that clock back and take his place.”
JJ Virgin’s Message
Grant survived his surgery and is now in better shape than he ever was. JJ’s book was also announced a New York Times bestseller, and JJ’s life and career took on a new meaning. Things that used to be important were no longer essential.
JJ said, “After you almost lose a child, you see things differently. Little things no longer feel like herculean battles. You clearly discover why health and wellness truly matters.”
Adding: “The most amazing, inspirational people are those who went through hard times and came out stronger. They become more resilient, self-aware, and capable of serving others.”
JJ’s latest book, Miracle Mindset: A Mother, Her Son, and Life’s Hardest Lessons, highlights her battle with her son’s accident and how she overcome this difficult season of her life, demonstrating for readers how to create their own resilient mindsets.
